Physicians

Dr. Francis Lee, BSc, MSc, MD, FRCSC, FACOG

Dr. Lee has extensive experience in gynecology, gynecological surgery, and women's health issues. He is a Training Preceptor for advanced techniques in laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, laser and microscopic tubal reversal surgeries. His expertise also includes urinary incontinence surgeries and the latest techniques in tension-free transvaginal tapes. He was associated with the Infertility Clinic at St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg from 1981 to 1997. He then started the Heartland Fertility and Gynecology Clinic with Drs. Kredentser and McTavish in 1997.

Dr. Lee has published in peer review articles, as well as presented in national and international meetings. Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Manitoba. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine. He is currently serving as a Seminar Coordinator for 4th year medical students in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has received numerous awards for outstanding teaching, and contributions towards medical education at the University of Manitoba. He also serves in the Sub-Committee for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Section in the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecology of Canada (SOGC). He was Past President for the Manitoba Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as Past President for the Manitoba Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). He is currently a Member of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC), American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS), American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Member of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons (SRS), Fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).

Dr. Stephanie A. Johnston, BSc, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Johnston is a graduate of the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at the University of Manitoba, and earned her Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2014.  She completed her Bachelors of Science with Honours in Biology at the University of New Brunswick and her undergraduate medical degree at Dalhousie University.  Dr. Johnston is able to offer her patients a variety of consultation and surgical services including laparoscopic, vaginal, hysteroscopic and traditional surgical approaches.  Dr. Johnston is actively involved with medical education, regularly teaching medical students and residents at the University of Manitoba.   She will be pursuing her Masters in Medical Education over the coming years. 

Dr. Johnston has an obstetrical practice at the Women’s Hospital at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg to compliment her practice at Heartland Fertility Clinic.  She believes in an active lifestyle and leading by example by regularly participating in triathlons, half marathons, dance classes and scuba diving during her free time.  Dr. Johnston is a member of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

Dr Pierre St-Michel, M.D., FRCS(c), Chairman of the board

 Dr. Pierre St-Michel obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Montreal in 1976 and completed his training specialising in obstetrics-gynaecology at the same institution in 1980. He was a recipient of a Medical Research Council of Canada Scholarship; Dr. St-Michel has been licensed to practice medicine in California since 1980. He completed his fellowship studies in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Southern California (USC) in 1981. Dr. St-Michel is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a specialist in obstetrics-gynaecology and is a member of the Quebec College of Physicians. He is also certified by the Medical Council of Canada and by the National Board of Medical Examiners (U.S.). Dr. St-Michel was Chief of Surgery at Hôpital Fleury in Montreal from 1998 to 2002. He was also a member of the Board of Administrators of the same hospital in 2002. He joined the Company's Montreal operations in 1995.

In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. St-Michel has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company since December 2002. He is currently one of the medical directors of the ART Medical Board Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society. He is an active member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society and the American Society of Reproductive and Capital Medicine. From 1982 to 1985 Dr. St-Michel was on the Board of Directors and a principal shareholder of “Les Ordinateurs Hypocrat” which made an initial public offering of its shares in 1982 and a second public offering in 1984-1985. That company was listed on the Montreal stock exchange and was sold to an American public company in 1995.

From 1984 to 1987, Dr. St-Michel was a member of the Board of Directors of Domicil Inc. which went public in 1984-1985. That company was listed on the Montreal stock exchange and Dr. St-Michel was one of its principal stock holders, financial vice-president and secretary of the company. Dr. St-Michel was involved in the pre-capitalisation of various private companies and the amalgamation of such companies before their first public offering.

 

Dr Marc Villeneuve, M.D., FRCS(c), FACOG

 Dr. Marc Villeneuve obtained his Medical Degree from Laval University, Quebec City in 1985 and completed his training specializing in Obstetrics-Gynaecology at the same institution in 1990. He was a Recipient of The Samuel G McLaughlin Foundation's scholarship from 1990 to 1992 and completed his fellowship studies in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) during those two years.

Dr. Villeneuve is Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and also in Reproductive Endocrinology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is also certified in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and by the Quebec College of Physicians. Dr. Villeneuve is a certified first trimester ultrasonographer and has passed both theoretical and practical examinations by the Foetal Medicine International Foundation. Dr. Villeneuve has written numerous articles in peer-reviewed Journals and has given several national and international presentations in his field of competence.

The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Laval University has given Dr. Villeneuve the title of Clinical Teacher and he has been involved in teaching and research in obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive endocrinology since 1992 at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec. Dr. Villeneuve is one of the medical directors on the ART medical board of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society. He is an active member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society and of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

 

 

Laboratory Technologists

Cindy Faraci, M.L.T., Laboratory Supervisor

Cindy Faraci is a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with experience in clinical chemistry, and research experience in transplant immunology, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology laboratories. She is a member of both the Canadian and Manitoba Society of MLT's and is licensed with the College of Medical Technologists of Manitoba. She is also a member of the Canadian Fertility & Andrology Society and regularly attends national meetings. She has successfully completed the ESHERE Basic Semen Analysis course.

 

Deborah Manchur, M.L.T, Embryologist/Andrologist

Deborah Manchur is a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with experience in serology, parasitology, prenatal screening, and research at the University of Manitoba. She is a member of both the Canadian and Manitoba Society of MLT's and is licensed with the College of Medical Technologists of Manitoba. She is also a member of the Canadian Fertility & Andrology Society and attends annual national meetings.

 

Jennifer Scott, BSc, Embryologist/Andrologist
Jennifer Scott has a Bachelor of Science with distinction from the University of Manitoba. She has experience in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, immunology and microbiology, working in research and development laboratories. Jennifer is an active member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS).

Jennifer Leinweber, R.N., Active member of CRNM, 

Jennifer Leinweber’s professional nursing experience is focused on women’s health, high and low risk obstetrics. In addition, she has worked as an operating room and recovery room nurse. Jennifer is an active member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and has completed a nursing certificate course in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI).

Cathy Gooch, R.N., Active member of CRNM

 Cathy has a strong medical and surgical background in pediatrics, women’s health and ICU. She has worked in various facilities across the country and has experience in Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ART) nursing. She is a member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and an active member of the CFAS Nurses Special Interest Group. She is also an active member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and has completed a nursing certificate course in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). 

 

Susan Larson, R.N., Active member of CRNM

 Susan Larson has experience in women’s health, gynecology, labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care. She specializes in Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ART) nursing, is a member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and a member of the CFAS Nurses Special Interest Group. She is also an active member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and has completed a nursing certificate course in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI).

 

Andrea Marche, R.N., Active member of CRNM 

Andrea Marche’s professional experience is focused on women’s health, high and low risk obstetrics; mother and baby, neonatal intensive care; and mental health, child and adolescence. In addition she has worked as an operating and recovery room nurse. She has worked in many clinical settings of nursing. Andrea is active member of the College of Registered N of Manitoba (CRNM) and the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

 

Anna Thomey, R.N., Active member of CRNM 

Anna Thomey hails from the East Coast. Her professional nursing experience has been primarily focused in pediatric medicine, including oncology, hematology and nephrology. To enhance her professional experience, Anna is excited to begin her journey as a reproductive nurse. Anna is an active member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).

 

Joan Toms, R.N., Active member of CRNM

 Joan has achieved a National Certification in Reproductive Endocrine and Infertility Nursing. In 2008 she received the Canadian Nurses Centennial Award for her work as a founding member and leader of the National Association of Peri Anesthesia Nurses. Her nursing background includes medicine, ambulatory surgery, post anesthesia care, clinic settings and procedural sedation.

 

Darlene Brokofsky, R.N., Active member of CRNM

Darlene’s background is in pediatrics medicine and high risk obstetrics. She received a Nursing Excellence Award in 2012. She was a representative for Women’s Hospital on the H.S.C. nursing council for many years. She has been part of the Heartland family since 2012.
